City of Hunter Water Rate Update Beginning January 2026

At the January 5, 2026 City Council meeting, the council discussed recent increases from Mitchell County Rural Water District #2 and the impact those changes have on the City of Hunter’s water costs. After discussion, the council approved an adjustment to local water rates by passing Ordinance No. 213, which amends Section 5. Water Rates. Of Ordinance No. 202 of the City of Hunter, Kansas.

When the New Rates Take Effect

The updated water rates will begin with January 2026 water bills.

New Water Rate Structure

Under the new ordinance, water bills will be calculated as follows:

  • Base rate: $34.00
    • Includes 2,000 gallons minimum usage
  • Additional usage: $9.00 per 1,000 gallons
    • Applies to all usage over the initial 2,000 gallons

This adjustment ensures the city can continue providing reliable water service while addressing rising supply costs.
